Photojournalism for ocean life conservation

Thomas Peschak is a National Geographic photojournalist; he is a lover of the ocean and its wonderful life. Also at his forty years old, he has had the opportunity of take many fantastic photos and he has been so near of great sharks and whales, and of mating rituals, too.

When he was ten years old in a boring day, he saw something encrusted underwater and when he approached to see, a lot of fishes of different colors surrounded him so since that day he loves to ocean.

By the way, before being Photographer, he studied marine biology and he made a specialization in kelp forest ecology and the impacts of illegal fishing. However, what he did not find in the statistics of his profession, he found in the photograph; how to sensitize people and have greater impact on the conservation of marine ecosystems.

With his photos Thomas Peschak searches shocking people, showing them the animal’s life since one perspective that they can’t see on the surface because he thinks that if you can’t see something, you never can love it. And that is the power of conservation photographers.

His greatest experience was 10 years ago in South Africa when midyear there were many sardines migrating so, sharks and dolphins separated the shoal to eat them in a process nature of coexistence. However, he realized that people thought that they were their enemies and didn't understand that was normal. Then, in a neighborhood where fishermen used the animal skin to make drums, they were sensitized and now they protect the animals that once hunted. Of course, the unforgettable experience of being among thousands of manta rays that seemed to be in a choreographic formation as they turned several times in themselves, really beautiful and unforgettable scenery to Thomas.

Finally, other unforgettable moment was in western Indian Ocean far away from shipping lanes, in Mozambique Channel there is a protective area full of sharks, he never before had seen so many sharks together. Those are just some of the many experiences in these years that every day strengthen their desire to reach the hearts of people through photography to preserve life in the ocean, he has the hoping to get to show many images evidencing a respectful coexistence between people and the marine ecosystem.

In my opinion, Thomas is in the right way, nothing better than to persuade using images to achieve a goal that finally affect us all such as the conservation of marine ecosystems, a world in our world where every day you discover something new and never fails to impress.

The ocean, by many feared, by other hated the result of fear of the unknown and the ambition of being the only ones but thanks to the work of people like Thomas Peschak little by little the world will know the heart of the marine life and falling in love each day of it.

Animals as humans are life, life must care and preserve, because we all do part of the  balance of creation forming a great beam, each one of us is part of the ingredients of that beam, some are water, others are sand and so on.
forming that strong beam we remain standing, each that one species becomes extinct, the beam is weakened and when most of the ingredients are lost, the beam will fall because, the concrete is not made only with water, not only with sand, It must be combined with an accurate measure to create a beam that can be sustained.

'' Never give up, because someday one of those photos can change the world. ''
